Onondaga leaders push for more hotel rooms, offer up to $750,000 in incentives

Hotels are one of the key drivers of revenue and growth in Onondaga County, but with a significant number of them out of commission, local leaders are looking to add more rooms.

Applications are now being accepted for the Onondaga County Hotel Initiative.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said the initiative will start with $4 million and award grants will range from $50,000 to $ 750,000. The money will assist developers in closing funding gaps in new hotel construction and/or incentivize existing hotels to add rooms to their current stock.

Criteria will be established to grade each proposal, including the size of the hotel, how quickly it will come online and how many jobs it will create.
